I've noted that some people on those sites attach their self esteem to a certain group and engage in these demented flame wars with another group; usually Guangdong or Fujian having a war with Shandong or Dongbei. I don't care at all about this childish fight, nor do I care about perceived aesthetics. I just like looking at trends of phenotypes in East Asia and evaluating them in an objective manner. So far, I definitely agree that in the aggregate; there is no such thing as concrete "north" or "south" phenotypes. Different populations just have random mutations causing certain phenotype expressions which may or may not be shared in a congruent manner with another group in proximity. For example, it appears that many populations from West Mongolia to Shanxi and Laos converge in phenotypes and structural continuity despite the enormous distance. The question is why, which is why people go into Anthropology; to find out the most likely answers. There is nothing wrong with pointing out observations such as this. I don't care at all about petty debates about which side is prettier. In the aggregate, it's the equivalent of say a 5/8 Udege 3/4 Onge roasting a 4/8 Udege 4/8 Onge person for being not enough Udege. |
