When I first saw the caricature called Pucca I thought it was supposed to be a Chinese girl? But then I looked it up and it's a Korean cartoon. So now I am confused as to whether the character is supposed to be Korean or Chinese. I feel it's a bit controversial because it could be seen as racist even though the character is cute. She runs a Jajamyeon (Zhajiangmian) shop. She wears the double bun hairstyle which is associated with Chinese characters in cartoons. But if you go on Wikipedia article for Pucca there is no mention of China or Chinese, it just says that it's a Korean cartoon and that Pucca is a Korean girl....

Okay this gets even more confusing. There is a character called Ching who is Puccas best friend. Ching's father is called Chang. And also there is a character called Abyo and it is basically Bruce Lee:

I think the whole show appropriates Chinese culture. Because Pucca's rival is Ring Ring who looks like this: But when she gets angry she turns into this:

She is indeed based on the image of a Chinese girl. And she has a crush on a Japanese ninja. lol
These stereotypical depictions are franchised and sold to little girls.
Funny thing is that this type of character was created with the intention to target the international market to begin with.

The Qing dynasty influences are so readily apparent in Pucca.
