There is something about low culture that is seen as being on the low end of culture simply because it is not popular enough in terms of its sophistication. For example when Lucas first said that he would film the new Star Wars film using digital cameras many seasoned directors said that is not art because digital lack film grain quality. Now it's pretty much all digital cinema. When people first experimenting with aspect ratios they preferred to have for movies they could only imagine the panoramic immersive movie experience. Then all the high end led displays featured wide aspect ratios. Now kids with their cell phones use google cardboard to have a totally new gaming and media experience that does not have the rectangle box aspect ratio because of the way the cell phone needs to use all its space to create two separate images to make a single stereoscopic image. I think the point is that high culture is always being driven by low culture as it tries to make it more and more sophisticated but what is considered high culture does change with the ever expanding array of low culture.
