In the last few months? Doesn't' it used to be a lot more vibrant and active 1 or 2 years ago?
What happen?
I know that some old members are starting to return now though.

Continuing on from what we discussed earlier, not only is it about the fact these are English language websites dedicated to Asians who are minorities in the West, but also forums just aren't as popular as other online discussion websites like reddit, Quora or Facebook.
Facebook is mostly about opinions but you can get very detailed responses on reddit and Quora. Forums are more places to just play around, post a strong or funny opinion, or show some interesting pictures and videos. For people who like art, they will tend to gravitate toward DeviantArt or tumblr to showcase their work. For aspiring music artists, they will gravitate toward YouTube and SoundCloud. And then for everyone else they just use things on their apps on their phones like Instagram and twitter. For people who want a certain degree of anonymity they prefer reddit or 4chan.
So the whole point is, forums just aren't popular compared to other portals of online discussion to begin with. So all those members, they most likely are still online; they just stopped using forums but continue to use things like reddit and quora and such.

In the last few months? Doesn't' it used to be a lot more vibrant and active 1 or 2 years ago? What happen? I know that some old members are starting to return now though. The biggest reasons have already been mentioned by eldertree but there's more to it than that. After all, news forums are still extremely active and then there's theapricity still having hundreds of posts a day. But that's not to say the popularity of forums hasn't died down, they have (just like blogs) Some other reasons for EB88's decline are: 1.Moderation removing a large proportion of 'trolls' who 'might' have been active on EB88. 2. Lack of new and exciting content 3. Uninspired threads, uninteresting posters 4. Personal disputes and censorship, there's one particular thread right now that I think is truly heading towards dangerous territory. Ironically it's spearheaded by a mod who constantly babbles about "free speech". 5. Shifting demographics. This one is inevitable and it ties in to what eldertree mentions. The active users will someday get married, have children and start another chapter in their lives. They'd be too busy to post on forums. The newer generation didn't grow up with forums and would consider it "old fashioned" and "lame"

P.S. Personally I think reddit is trash, it's messy, clunky and I would never ever use it. I genuinely think it sucks, much more so than forums and Wordpress/Blogger, i.e. web blogs (which was a newer, slightly sexier takeover of forums but sadly seems to have suffered the same fate). I've used most of the other apps but am not big on tumblr. I think one over thing that isn't mentioned much is twitter but in all honesty I think Chinese social media tools are superior to those in the English speaking world. It's not even a contest. Take Sina Weibo for instance, it's a two in one and functions like both twitter and facebook. I don't mean to boast but Chinese programmers are simply better and the only disadvantage is the lack of diversity. And the trolls

I got banned twice. Once for pissing off MrC and second time for trolling Cydevil. I give up on EB88.

I got banned twice. Once for pissing off MrC and second time for trolling Cydevil. I give up on EB88. I'm starting to give up due to the moderation team not actually caring about its members, but they care more about defending their fellow moderators even if they are clearly in the wrong. If you report a moderator who would blatantly get infracted if he were a regular member, it's always "Oh I will PM him" or "Oh you both need to stop" which achieves nothing. The problem is that the moderators on eb88 have developed an "us" vs "them" mentality between members on moderators. It's like ~they have each others backs no matter what~. It's not surprising because the ratio between regular posting members and moderators on eb88 is 1:1. There is this weird loyalty code thing among them which does more harm than good for the forum. That's probably why many members who became moderators eventually stop contributing. They are forgetting that the forum is for its members, not for the "staff". In the past when eb88 was at its prime, moderators and members and every situation would be fully investigated and reviewed. Now, any sort of issue is completely dismissed as "bickering", with complaints about a moderator being shut down and silenced. Even when I present solid proof of being trolled by another member, a farce jury was set up. Then another rule was passed to further protect that person. Then that jury system was discontinued. Then the perpetrator was rewarded a two way block which he requested.
