Is it to show Asians that Asians and whites have enough things in common, such as "dreams", and can fall in love together.
OR is it to show Asians that even white women are superior and have the ability to tame wildness, and are the equal of kings in Asia.

I think most Western productions are racist in one form another especially when we're talking about a White protagonist going on an ~exotic adventure~. It draws attention to how ~strange~ and ~alien~ another culture is and usually the White protagonist is able to seduce any local ethnic person they want which is the White directors way to convey how desired their race is. So in this case the White woman gets romantically involved with the Thai king or something, which is the White director communicating to the audience: "We are so hot, non-Whites want our genes".

Yes. The choice of the Thai king as the one being seduced by the "scientific" madam Leonowen shows that even someone which exists at the top of their hierarchy, in Asia, falls prey to western ordeals and beauty standards.
