Basically all the revolutions in Europe were about trying to achieve more and more equality with whatever was considered high elite status.  But the drive towards inequality was more or less the backing of religion.  Religion may be the opiate of the masses but it is the backbone of the elite.  The failure of religion to help people to achieve peaceful and harmonious status on earth was recognized by those that had a vision for change.  Then the revolutions occurred along with the laws that helped people to preserve their dignity, rights, and possessions and an entrepreneurial and scientific spirit was cultivated.
