It's because Indians today don't even identify with Buddha but mostly Hinduism. In fact I said Buddha originates from India and these Indians online called me a liar. They mostly have severed ties with Buddha. Buddhism is now a tiny minority religion in India. Aren't many things like that? The resurgence of an elemental aspect of a country's origin waxes and wanes just like Confucianism in China. That doesn't mean that when Indians take on Confucianism training that it automatically becomes theirs. In this sense Buddhism is still a foreign thing to China. China has made it its own in the sense that Malaysia has made Sinitic dishes into its own forms like Nasi Goreng fried rice but what about the original dishes of Malaysia? |

And besides if you want to lump Buddhism with Chinese you'd have to lump Chinese with every other nation that has a great following in the Buddhist religions. |
